IDENTIFICATION AND USES
Groundnut also called Peanut are matured fruits of the plant Arachis hypogea Linnaeus which develop in pods underground.
The main use of groundnut is as a source of edible oil, but the high protein content also makes it an important food crop. Groundnuts can be eaten raw, used in recipes, made into solvents and oils, medicines, textile materials, peanut butter, as well as many other uses. Boiled peanuts are a popular snack in several countries as well.
Scientific Name: Arachis hypogea
Treatment: Harvested Pods of groundnut are washed and dried. The pods are mechanically opened to remove the kernels. Kernels are packaged and stored in conditions to prevent rancidity and aflatoxin development. This is a raw food for further processing into a food ingredient, Animal feed ingredient, Pet Food Ingredients etc.
